The antennas here consist of a Butternut HF-6V vertical for 80-40-30-20-15-12-10 meter operation, a dual band Inverted Vee/Dipole for 80 and 17 meters. My HexBeam made by K4KIO mounted on a 48 foot HDBX series freestanding tower replacing the cubical quad that  was destroyed by ice twice!!  The Quad is no longer in service, but I will keep the info about it alive on this website.  Some wire antennas will be installed soon for better performance on 160 thru 30 meters.

10-14-2010 - New portable vertical
Built a new portable antenna - mostly out of existing parts and 'plumbers delight' construction.

11-3-2019 - New K4KIO Hex-Beam

After a long wait I finally replaced my Quad with a K4KIO Hex-Beam.  With a LOT of help from my son - KC9JMK and good friend K9RYN, the beam was put in place on the tower.

Preliminary results are outstanding and quality of the kit is fantastic.  Support from K4KIO has been great.

12-19-2008 - Ice storm destroys my Quad!
About  3/4 inch of ice had built up on the spreaders when the top spreaders finally began to let loose.  Plans are to replace all of the spreaders with stronger spreaders from Max Gain Products.

The ice storm left well over 100,000 area homes without power for nearly a week.

05-02-09 - Repairs complete
It has been a long 4 months waiting for the weather to cooperate.  The Quad is back in operation and should be ready for whatever Mother Nature deals out.

I've used the Butternut HF-6V on and off since 1986.  It is currently ground mounted with a good radial system.  It has never worked better.

The Lightnigbolt Quad was installed on 8-13-05 and covers 20-17-15-12-10 meters with 7db gain, very broadbanded, fairly light, small turning radius, and 'improved' Quad construction.

Sons Geoff and Chris on the tower.  Thanks for the help!

The new tower and quad antenna was a big project and a big investment for me.  There were a lot of choices and decisions.
